Eugenio Suárez went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBI on Wednesday, propelling the Diamondbacks to an 11-4 victory over the Rockies.

Suárez served as Arizona’s primary offensive catalyst on Wednesday afternoon at Chase Field, extending their early lead with a run-scoring double in the fifth inning before clobbering a grand slam -- his 18th round-tripper of the season -- in the ensuing frame to ostensibly put this one away for good. The 33-year-old veteran slugger has been a bit of a disappointment from a fantasy perspective, but he’s caught fire of late, batting .315 (35-for-111) with 11 homers and 29 RBI over his last 30 contests.

ARI Starting Pitcher #52

Jordan Montgomery recorded eight strikeouts and allowed three runs over six innings on Wednesday in a win over the Rockies.

Montgomery reeled off three hitless frames to open the contest and was handed a five-run lead by Arizona’s offense before the Rockies got to him for three runs over the next three frames. Fortunately, the Diamondbacks were able to supply him with enough offense to allow him to cruise to a relatively easy victory, his eighth of the season. He’ll bring a lackluster 6.25 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 63/35 K/BB ratio across 89 1/3 innings (18 starts) into a favorable road tilt on Tuesday against the Marlins.

Diamondbacks recalled INF Blaze Alexander from Triple-A Reno.

Alexander will help out around the infield while Ketel Marte is sidelined. He’s getting the nod over Kevin Newman at second base today.

Diamondbacks optioned OF Alek Thomas to Triple-A Reno.

Thomas is Arizona’s best defensive center fielder, but he’s hit just .191/.248/.362 in 37 games, in part due to what seems to be some bad luck; due to his 47% hard-hit rate and modest 17% strikeout rate, Statcast him with an xBA of .284 and xSLG of .466. He’s losing his spot in part because of Jake McCarthy’s improved play but also because the Diamondbacks wanted another infielder (Blaze Alexander) around with Ketel Marte hurting. It’s good news for those rostering McCarthy.

Jake McCarthy went 3-for-5 and knocked in two runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth, to propel the Diamondbacks to a 4-3 win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

This is getting a little ridiculous now. McCarthy, who spent most of last year looking like one of the league’s easiest outs, is hitting .311/.380/.438 in 325 plate appearances. The White Sox reportedly could have acquired McCarthy in the Cristian Mena deal last winter and chose Dominic Fletcher instead. Fletcher, in case you were wondering, is currently hitting .216/.283/.268 in the majors.
Eduardo Rodriguez

ARI Starting Pitcher #57

Eduardo Rodriguez allowed three runs in five innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Rockies.

Rodriguez got 11 missed swings tonight after producing just two in his Diamondbacks debut against the Guardians last week, so that’s a positive. He wound up allowing six hits, walking one and striking out five. He has an even easier assignment coming up next week against the Marlins, and while we don’t have total faith in him as a mixed-league option at this point, he should be worth playing then.

ARI Second Baseman #4

Ketel Marte has a low-grade ankle sprain and will avoid the IL, according to D-backs manager Torey Lovullo.

Kevin Newman might need to fill in again Wednesday, but it looks like Marte should be back this weekend.

ARI First Baseman #53

Christian Walker (oblique) has resumed baseball activities.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Walker is asymptomatic after hitting the injured list back in late July with a left oblique strain. There isn’t a definitive timetable for his return yet, but there’s a possibility the veteran first baseman winds up skipping a rehab assignment in an effort to get back into Arizona’s lineup as quickly as possible. If there’s a silver lining here it’s that Josh Bell has done a tremendous job filling in at the cold corner since being brought in from the Marlins.
Ketel Marte

ARI Second Baseman #4

Ketel Marte (ankle) is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Rockies.

No real surprise here as the Diamondbacks are going to proceed with an abundance of caution after Marte aggravated a left ankle injury during Monday’s series opener against Colorado. The 30-year-old franchise cornerstone, who has arguably been the top second baseman in the fantasy landscape this season, is day-to-day for now. There should be an update on his status shortly once the results of his MRI come back.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

ARI Left Fielder #12

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (hamstring) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Rockies.

As expected, Gurriel is back at designated hitter and batting third for Tuesday’s showdown following a one-game absence due to left hamstring tightness. It appears Arizona managed to catch the issue early before it became a more serious problem.
